My instant home remedy for a cold is always guasha massage. This simple form of massage is the easiest “dispersing” therapy that can be smoothly done at home using any oil that we may have and a metal spoon/lid with smooth edges. My colleague, Robin Ray Green created an instructional video explaining how to do guasha on children, which can be applied to adults as well.
Guasha and Acupuncture for Children at Holistic Therapy Ealing
Thank you for specifying that you're interested in these treatments for children. Traditional Chinese Medicine approaches like guasha and acupuncture can be adapted for children, but they typically differ from adult treatments in several important ways:
Pediatric Guasha
When performed on children, guasha is usually:
Much gentler and lighter in pressure
Applied for shorter durations
Often used with a smoother tool
Common childhood conditions that may be addressed with pediatric guasha include:
Mild respiratory issues
Digestive discomfort
Fever reduction
Immune support
Pediatric Acupuncture
For children, acupuncture is typically modified as:
Fewer needles are used
Needles are inserted more shallowly and for shorter periods
Kate also uses non-insertive techniques (acupressure or specialized tools)
Sessions are usually shorter in duration
At Holistic Theraoy Ealing Kate might also use alternatives like:
Shonishin: A Japanese needleless technique specifically for babies and children
Laser acupuncture: Using low-level lasers instead of needles
Ear seeds: Small seeds or beads placed on acupressure points
